ESET Chief Security Evangelist Tony Anscombe looks at some of the report’s standout findings and their implications for staying secure in 2025

This week, the ESET research team released the H2 2024 issue of the ESET Threat Report, offering a detailed look at the key trends and developments that shaped the cybersecurity landscape from June to November of this year.

The report confirms, among other things, the trend that state-aligned cyberespionage groups are increasingly embracing ransomware attacks. Meanwhile, password-stealing malware increasingly takes aim at macOS users, particularly in pursuit of their cryptocurrency wallet credentials. The second half of 2024 also saw threat actors pivoting to new attack vectors and social engineering methods, all while law enforcement crackdowns prompted shake-ups of established cybercriminal ranks.

Watch the video to learn more and make sure to check out the report itself, including to learn which categories of threats surged and which trended down – and what it all means for staying secure as 2025 beckons.
